Announcement of the 2022 Fu Foundation Asian Philosophy Essay Contest

The 22nd International Conference on Chinese Philosophy received a total of 57 papers submitted for the Fu Foundation Asian Philosophy Essay Contest. The conference organizing committee has submitted these papers to the Chinese and English review teams for two rounds of review to determine the winning papers. Out of these conference papers, three outstanding papers by young scholars have been chosen as award recipients. The winners are graduate students or young faculty members (that is, scholars who have obtained a doctorate and have been employed within five years). The list of winners is as follows (in no particular order):

TIMO ENNEN, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, won the English Language Paper Award for “An Unbridgeable Gap——Cognitive Science, Mencius, and Wang Yangming.”

Duan Chongyang 段重阳of East China Normal University won the Chinese Language Paper Award for his paper “‘Incorporation and Reinstatement’ and ‘Reinstatement of Captured Objects’: Two Steps in Xiong Shili's Metaphysics.”

Wang Kaiyuan 王开元of Hebei University won the Chinese Language Paper Award for “Desire, Disgust and Dignity: The Connotation and Theoretical Significance of Mencius's ‘Heart of Shame and Evil.’”

The Fu Foundation will award a prize of $2,000 to each winner. Since this International Conference on Chinese Philosophy has been changed to an online conference, there will be no travel necessary, so the Fu Foundation will no longer provide each awardee with an additional $1,000 in travel expenses.

We would like to express our warm congratulations to the winners and thank the domestic and foreign jury experts for their hard work and active service as well as for these young scholars’ active participation.

We are looking forward to seeing the winners, contestants, and all attendees online at the June 27-July 1, 2022 conference.
